When choosing uPVC French doors, you have the option to add additional glazed panels to either side or above the doors. These are commonly known as side panels (or sidelights) and top windows (or toplights).
Adding these panels is an excellent way to fill a wider or taller opening while maximising the amount of natural light entering your home. They also create a more impressive overall appearance by extending the glazed area around your French doors.
Of course, adding extra panels will increase the overall cost, as additional uPVC frames and glazing are required.
Side Panels (Sidelights)
Side panels are fitted alongside your French doors and can be positioned on either one side or both sides, depending on the width of your opening and your preferred layout.
They can be manufactured to your exact measurements, making them ideal for filling wider openings without compromising on the overall appearance.
For additional flexibility, you can also choose to have opening windows incorporated into the side panels, allowing for extra ventilation. Opening sections are available at an additional cost.
Top Windows (Toplights)
A top window is similar to a side panel but is positioned directly above your French doors. Top windows are particularly useful when you have a taller-than-average opening and want to make full use of the available space.
As with side panels, toplights can be manufactured to suit your required dimensions. Depending on the size and specification, you may also have the option of incorporating an opening section for additional ventilation, at an extra cost.
Both side panels and top windows offer a practical and attractive way to customise your French doors, making the most of your available opening while allowing more natural light into your home.
